Mom's Cabbage Patch Doll

My mother loved dolls even more than I do. She grew up on a farm where money was scarce. There wasn't any money for dolls. Times were too difficult. A pair of shoes was more important than a doll. At least it was to the adults. I'm sure my mother would have gladly gone bare foot for a store bought doll.

She started making her own dolls at a very young age. She made her first dolls with sticks of wood dressed in scraps of old cloth. When she was old enough to sew with a needle and tread, no sewing machine, she made a stuffed rag doll.

When she retired she started making dolls as a hobby. She made this Cabbage Patch doll, and it was one of her favorites. The doll is dressed in newborn baby clothes. She took a craft class to learn the technique used on the faces. She sold some dolls at craft fairs and gave many away as gifts.

I have several of her store bought Cabbage patch dolls now in my collection. I will post them at another time. Also, I will post her *April* rag doll in another post. It is my favorite.
