real life hijabi #39

My name is Nadia, 29 yrs old. A Moroccan girl, born and raised in Germany. I am a foreign language secretary. (she also blogs her cool outfits here).

my style:
My style is simple, most of the time with a touch of chic(ness) and I love to try combinations in a covered way.. My device for my everyday outfits is to open my closet and to take out the clothes, which jump in my view and to combine them with the matching hijab and accessoires. I love to follow the trends, BUT in a modest way!

Shopping:
I shop from several places, my favourites are H&M, ZARA, Mango, Vero Moda and Dorothy Perkins.

style tips:
I am a very broad-minded person, but my tips are to avoid: the camel bump hijab style, earrings while wearing hijab and leggings/treggings on hijabees! Just try to wear anything in a modest kinda way and wear/combine also clothes, which just are hanging in your closet & u didn't wear for months/years..

real life hijabi #38

I'm Susan Carland. I'm a university lecturer, PhD student, community worker, drinker of tea, raconteur from Australia. (And one of the hosts of Salam Cafe!)

Style Inspirations:Mostly what I see other people wearing. If I see someone who looks well put-together, I take a mental snap shot, and recreate it with my own twist (with varying degrees of success).

My Style:
Relaxed, divergent, entirely dependent on the laundry cycle.

Shopping:Online, any stores including op-shops/thrift store, markets, friends' wardrobes.

Style Tips:Don't follow fashion too closely, if at all - follow what you like and suits you. Class and style never go out of fashion; jeggings most certainly will.

tell us something about yourself:
My name is Adilah and I am 28. I am from the sunny island of Singapore. I work as a Laboratory Technician in a high school.

whats your style:
The closes style to describe mine is bohemian. Due to the nature of my job, I wear jeans everyday with tops. My favourite kind of top is the indian style kurta and I also fancy tops with ruffles and ribbons. I put together my own ensemble and like to accessorize. Actually, the first thing that people notice about me are my accessories. I love big flower corsage brooch to pin my hijab and love wearing bangles, rings, bracelets.

Right now, I am into wearing dresses such as trench dress or a shirt dress with my jeans. This inspiration came after my trip to Turkey and seeing how beautifully the turkish ladies dressed.
Since I am of the bigger size, it is quite hard to find clothes that fit me in malls as most of the shop carries petite asian sizes. But there are a few places to get my clothes from such as Marks & Spencer. For economical, muslimah-friendly clothes, Geylang Serai is the place and I do shop online on Shukr Online and SAC Fetish.

whats your hijab story:I started wearing hijab when I was 17 years old after attending Islamic Studies classes. I sit on the idea for about 3 months because my mum was not wearing hijab then. My mum was against the idea initially because she don't want me to put on the hijab and suddenly take it off after some time.

I still remember her response (when I ask her what she think of me wearing hijab), "But you have not tried wearing short skirts and bare back dresses before". I told her that I never needed to experience wearing those clothes to have a fulfiling life. Alhamdulilah, after I started wearing hijab, my younger sister follow suit and so does my mum.
