celebrate (and wear) your roots

when it comes to abaya, it can be a little daunting at first because it may seem so foreign and perhaps it isn't even in your culture to wear it or even anything like it. one way to get over that hurdle and have some fun with it, is to tie it into your culture. maybe for you, you could add some african inspired prints to the sleeves, chinese patterned silk or in my case i would whip out the tartan and wear my heritage on my literal sleeves.
