im not wearing the hijab so much...

...so the posts havent been coming out like they used to.

lemme rephrase that - i do still wear it of course, but since the baby came back in early january, ive been spending most of my days inside my home taking care of her and find myself going out of the house less and less, thus not wearing hijab every day like i used to when i was working and when i do go out i seem to find myself grabbing whatever scarf is nearest, so ive kinda lost inspiration for blogging about it. do you ever find yourself going through hijab ruts like this where what you wear is determined by whatever is clean and available? how do you get the urge to 'style up' back?

but im still trying to push out a few here and there, like this autumn inspired set:

looking for a look for the upcoming new years eve celebration? why not go for a basic black ensemble that always looks smart (whether a skirt/jacket combo or a sleek satin abaya) and jazz it up with fruity colours and accessories. here is my take on it...

as soon as i saw this outfit jennifer garner was wearing my jaw kinda did a little drop. i love the bright pop of silky fuchsia up against the pure whiteness of her 60's style mini. the mix'n'match clutter of pearl necklaces also adds a beautiful shine to co-ordinate this outfit together perfectly (hate the shoes though!).

here is how i would do it up - with much cuter, girlier shoes, a long crochet type skirt, similar silk blouse matched with a loose white cardi and cute matching accessories.

three ways with grey

grey is such an interesting colour; which like other shades like black and white can be matched to every other single colour you match with it.

greys look really good with a splash of colour - especially some hot fluro shades - but grey all by itself - mixed in with a little black can have quite a soft, calming effect.

you know when you go to some hip, relaxed market and you see some people dressed in awesomely different kinda clothing? well this is what this top reminds me of and i want one! its so cute!

dark winter

one thing that i love about winter here in Oz is that dark colours are the norm and expected. we kinda dress for the season in order to match the mood of the weather.

i love a tailored jacket over muted shades of browns. its very city chic and classy - especially when it is dressed up with some dark chocolate sunglasses and some unusual accessories.

i love frills and ruffles - they are so girly and fun...

i love minty green shades - they remind me a lot of summer and i always think of mint-choc icecream for some reason...

1920's inspired hijabi

i love the earlier decades of fashion. it was a time when modesty was in and anything above the knee was seen as classless. here is a 1920's flapper style hijabi outfit that i have created with a flapper style dress, 1920's necklace, 1920's brown heels, a vintage 1920's handbag and a 1920's head-dress...

the 1920's was also a great time for hats and fashionable head coverings. here are a couple of different pics from the time:

1920's women also loved to decorate their hats and head wear and even their hair with gorgeous brooches, feathers, flowers, embellished headbands and jewels. you can copy cat the style by picking up vintage inspired pieces from second hand stores and wearing them on your hijab. you can even check out your local sewing craft store for gorgeous appliques readily available. these pieces below are available from here and can easily be worn on hijab for a 1920's style inspired look:

if large flowers and fancy coloured feathers are not really your style - then check out this similar idea. use small brooches as an elegant and dainty touch to your hijab. below are some of the cute brooches i have picked up from second hand stores over the years...

dark grey

cute greys

i love grey and find it somewhat amusing when people say "oh, i never thought grey would look good with that/on me!" grey suits pretty much everyone - you just have to know your shade. i find that fair skin (like mine) doesnt do well with really dark grey hijabs as it can bring out blue undertones under the eyes and make you look really tired - but looks fantastic with darker toned women. on the other hand light grey looks really cute against fairer skin.

either way - the grey shade you wear below your hijab doesnt matter too much and can be worn by anybody. here is a cute look for a lighter grey shade - with a few hints of colour thrown in to make it not so drab...

what are your thoughts on grey?

a more relaxed look

i love the laid back, beach-washy feel of this set - its very relaxed with its soft waves and long ruffles. i think the colour scheme really helps exude that relaxed look as well.
