stripes & swirls

wearing a plain black abaya can get a bit boring so i like to spice it up a little bit every now and then with bright colours and crazy patterns.

here are three looks that i love:

which one would you wear?

3 looks with grey trousers

grey trousers are awesome for work wear - they go with everything and can be dressed up for a more formal look or dressed casually for a laid-back office feel.
here are three looks i put together for the working day...

one party dress - three ways

this psychedelic patterned party dress is not only cute but versatile!
dress it down in all white for a sweet summer look, mix up patterns and colours with a long plain skirt for a hippy-bohemian outfit or match it with sparkled gem embellished jeans and a plain cardigan/turtle neck combo for a more glam combination...
which one would you wear?

white tunic - three ways

plain items are best for dressing up or down or playing with and tweaking different looks from. here i have taken a long sleeved plain white tunic and dressed it up three ways.
which would you wear?

the basic dark trousers

hijabies who wear pants would almost all have a pair of dark trousers somewhere in their wardrobe. whether charcoal - dark grey or dark browns, dark trousers can be used for the typical work outfit or tranformed into a more fun look.
here are three outfits i put together using a simple pair of dark trousers that can be used for simple day looks, or for a slightly jazzed up work look...

how to do up the red dress

i think the best way to start of an outfit is by taking a plain basic and to work off of that. down below we have a pretty plain red sleeveless dress, that i am going to do a few different looks with:

down below:

the first look has been fixed using a large, poncho style tartan jacket, red tights, black shoes and a black hijab.

second in line: a cute black gypsy top - emroidered with tiny flowers, black hijab and flowery square scarf that has been folded into a triangle and wrapped around the neck and across the chest. its matched with red shoes and a deeper red bag.

third look: reverse look with the shoes and tights, a big square bag, black hijab - large loose jacket and to really add distraction a long monochromatic tie-dyed scarf has been hung around the neck.

but my favourite alternative look is this one below done up with a heavily striped shawl, two belts across the mid-section (done up loose and with the help of the shawl the belts wont add obvious curves to your appearance), a red beret and a few brooches here and there to complete the look.

which one would you be tempted to wear?

which one?

i have done three sets up for the long black dress that you can see below. i wont post the link because its way too expensive to be even considered worthwhile buying, but you can just complete the looks with any plain black dress or even a plain black abaya (which is how i would do it).
matched with citrus tones and bow tie flats...

purple & pink hues - love those cute flats...

you can find this casual style abaya here. im not too sure if they still stock it though. its a dark gray shade which would work with a lot of different looks. here are three different looks i put together using it...

a layered look with a long, loose purple vest matched with light peachy accessories. note the belt goes under the vest ladies...

multi shades of blue. i love these flower heels, just wish they came in flats because those pin-thin heels look dangerous...

this pretty white ruffly skirt is from here and is £55.00 . now white, being a shade is pretty neutral and goes with absolutely everything. here i have dressed it three different ways, all you have to do is tell me which is your favourite...

a cute rainbow-esque outfit for shopping...

a more dressed up polka dot outfit - nice for hubby dates and dinner...

or a breezy caftan pick - great for the beach or seaside...

this brown skirt is available here for £50 (AU$100). its pleated ruffles are so cute and add just a touch of femininity to what would be an otherwise boring skirt. its slightly chequered and comes in a nice deep purple as well.

here i have matched it three ways...
in neutral browns for a calm, collected chic look (just add some sleeves)...

with gorgeous shades of green...

and with the most vibrant shade of pink i could find...

now you tell me... which is your fav?

i have featured this grey tweedy skirt before because i just love it. its very plain and very simple, which means its so easy to work with, besides grey is one of those colours that really goes with anything.
this skirt can be found at LTS on sale for £35.
this green floral look would be great for summer/spring...

i see this piece as more of an winter work look - comfy yet still classic enough for work...

this one would be my 'fun' outfit - movies, dates with your hubby, going out with friends...

this simple abaya comes from al-anwar fashions (the link isnt working - i will try and post it later) and will set you back US $79.99, which for a pretty basic abaya is a tad expensive in my books, so you could really substitute it with any plain black abaya... which reminds me - i gots to get a new one - mine is getting holes in it. anyways here are 3 looks from the same abaya...
the first here has been brightened up with what i consider happy-bright colours and some sleek black, open toed flats...

Untitled

a very feminine looking peachy outfit - yes i would wear this loose sleeved cape thingy over the abaya - why not...

Untitled

a very chic monochrome look - reminds me of the city for some reason... dunno why...

Forever 21 has this great knit dress for $29. it comes in this great brown shade and also in black, but since i do a lot of black abaya looks, i decided to play around with the brown. so here are three looks with the same dress. which one do you lik the best?

a new segment (as requested).
here i will get one item that is cheaply priced, and show you three ways to dress it up. today's entry will focus on this long black skirt, available from Debenhams for £22.50 ($46 AUD / $33 USD). the skirt is very cute, with medium sized pleats that willow out at the bottom, giving a beautiful flared out shape.
