coolest niqab award goes to...

MIA!
she usually dress so crazy that it is cute. take her maternity wear looks for starters (i love it. i freaking love it!)
so its kinda no surprise that if anyone was going to dress up like a disco-enthused niqabi that it would be her...

i wish more niqabies livened up their outfits with crazy patterned abayas and niqabs like this. it is certainly refreshing...
look at those sexy shoes!!!!
lol, she even did the ol' dressed up eyes and niqab look...
what do you think of her hip niqab/abaya combo? would you wear it? do you like it?

i wore niqab today

its nothing i am planning on doing full-time - if you follow the masri blog you will know why i wore it for the day. anyway, one reader asked me to report back on what it was like to wear it.

here is how it started -

i had on a teal coloured niqab and a black hijab, but as i was standing in front of the fridge at home, i decided i was thirsty and so went to drink straight from the jug of water in the fridge. i forgot i had the niqab on and tried to drink through it. i ended up with a very wet niqab and a face and chest full of water. not happy.

so i had to peel the wet teal niqab off my face and change into something else. i ended up wearing a black niqab that i bought from here ($6), with a pink hijab and this abaya that i bought from here ($41).

wearing it out in public was good. i didnt feel at all nervous and i actually forgot i was wearing it. if i did receive any stares, i certainly didn't notice. the only downside was that it got hot very quickly and the tip of my nose was continuously itchy because of not being used to having fabric on my face.

i would say to give it a go - try it out for a day and see how you like wearing it. its not something i would do full-time (i dont think it is fard), but it definately was a good experience and a little bit of fun.

the decorations of a hijabi

hijabs these days are not just black on black. hijab now includes so many colours, beautiful prints, designs, trends and decorations.

not the usual niqabi - most niqabies i see are head to toe black, so when i see a niqabi in colour i usually go "whoa" and pay special attention:

a muslim gal and her glasses.. these have become to some hijabies the must have piece to partner hijab.. some even go as far to match their sunnies specifically to their individual hijabs:

hats, hats, hats : Sisters in wide brimmed hats, baseball caps, berets, beanies (?!?) and pull overs:

makeup, escpecially eye-shadow, to match the worn hijabs:

stand out galabayas and abayas, in a huge variety of colour, designs and add-ons:

henna, henna, henna - the hand jewellry of the hijabi in intricate designs and detailing:

hijab pins in so many colours and fashions - from teeny diamontes to large, glittering pieces:

hijabi attitude - the sweet smiles, friendly natures of us or the "go away" stares of some:

prints and patterns:

super-detailed and twisted hijab designs:

was ned kelly a niqabi?

is it just me or does anyone else think Aussie Bush Ranger Ned Kelly was Australia's first niqabi?
Neddy's full home-made armour:

Neddy's famous helmet a.k.a niqab

look familiar??????

Neddy lookin fine.. check out that irish hair!!!

im a doctor...

i know some people have gotta wear a uniform and that sometimes you have to make your uniform suit your religion.. but damn that is one ugly uniform. this niqabi looks likes she is about to bust out the "...and one small step for man" line. and im not having a go at the niqab, im blaming that material... it just doesnt sit right for niqab does it... oh well.. a niqabi's gotta do what a niqabi's gotta do...

this doctor looks much friendlier... the top one may scare small children...
