Late night shopping last night... i am walking along the mall about to do my grocery shopping and this lady is walking towards my direction with her child.
The child comes near me and she quickly grabs her child's hand and practically drags her away from me while giving me a bad look like i'm a car about to run over her child.
To the child i wasn't scary (she had a big smile on her face while looking at me - i smiled back at the gorgeous child) but to the mum i apparently was.
i understand people naturally have a fear of the unknown and a lot of Aussies who have not yet come into meaningful contact with Muslims are scared or try to avoid Muslims because they don't know anything about us and all that they do 'know' is what they have seen on Australian Tv - mainly the Cronulla Riots, Suicide bombings or the Bali Bombings in which a small group of Muslims in Bali sinfully and wrongly took the lives of about 200+ people (including 88 Australians). I don't know how those Muslims could ever justify that act. It was a horrible, unforgiving thing to do. Allah may choose to forgive them but i know many muslims and non-muslims that won't.
Even my own family did and still think like this. Certain family members accept Islam is my decision but they still don't understand it and some even choose not to listen to me when i try to explain. But if something about Muslims is on the TV then they have no problems listening.
A lot of people believe the crap they see on TV and although some of it may be truthful, it does not account for what Islam is truly about and does not account for the general Muslim population.
I wish we somehow had a way of reaching out to the people here and proving to the general population on a mass that we are not scary people who live as terrorists and like to blow people up.
All i usually see on TV about Muslims is SUICIDE BOMBER! SUICIDE BOMBER!
I wish they would show the real islam not the people who shamefully kill innocents.
If there are any non-muslims out there reading this - please don't be scared of us and please don't nearly rip your child in half just to get them away from us. We are not here to hurt you.
By the way the above pic is of Australia's first female Muslim lifeguard, Mecca Laalaa on Cronulla Beach.
