first off thanks for sending in your questions srini. here is your question:
was just wondering if black is the default color of the hijab. bcause i see most women wearing hijab wear it in the black.Whats the reason behind this. Is it to make the cloth as opaque as possible. By the way, is there is a masculine form of Hijab., i.e., is there a men's hijab covering them from head to toe. If so, why dont men in the west wear it? If there is no men's hijab, why not?
here is my answer:
there is no default colour for hijab. it is said black is the least liked colour and white is the most liked of colours by Allah. some women prefer to wear black as it is the most opaque and to my knowledge when the women first heard the Quran revelation about hijab they ripped apart their aprons and covered their head with them so they looked like crows.
hijab is for men and women, but we cover different parts.
women - being more naturally attractive, beautiful and curvy must cover from head to toe.
men - must cover from their belly button to the bottom of their knees as a MINIMUM. But most practicing muslim men usually cover completely (except for their head). i see a lot of muslim men here in australia wearing long loose gowns (known under various names as a thobe, galabaya, dishdash, etc) from various cultures. men are not expected to cover their hair though you will see many men wearing head-gear such as turbans or keffiyahs or those little skull cap thingys (that i don't know the name of).
BOTH GENDERS:
must lower their gaze.
must wear opaque, loose clothing.
