there is this radio host guy called michael smith who has created a media frenzy here in australia because he is trying to get hijabs and niqabs banned from all retail stores.. meaning that if you or i walked into a shop to do our grocery shopping, banking or to go buy some clothing we would be forced to remove our hijabs.
and why? because he thinks they are a danger to society.. somehow he has linked them to balaclavas that bank robbers wear... and because he cant see our face or hair or whatever that somehow poses a security issue. and now we have idiots across the country supporting this ridiculous notion, saying that "they could shoplift and hide things under their scarves"...
Smith is saying that apparently wearing a face covering is offensive to some people.. especially the people who have been in situations where they have been held-up before...
You kidding me? ... how many people does that add up to nation-wide?? What about all the muslims you are offending?? Im pretty sure the offended muslims outweighs the offended people involved in holdups..
he went on the read out an email from a viewer that had been in a hold-up situation before and now claims her hearts start beating fast and she gets nervous when a muslim woman approaches her counter... ok.. my answer... its called therapy... go get some pyshcological help to deal with your issues.. dont connect the robber to muslim women and finally.. how bout changing your job if you cant deal with the general public?
Smith also says "it is pretty full on if you havent seen the full on burka"... and that it shocked him and scared the crap out of his little girl when she saw the muslim woman... answer - educate yourself first.. then educate your daughter.. open your eyes and her eyes to the world and stop expecting everyone to be white bread and butter, just like you.
He goes on to say that children get scared of "this black.. not really human shape"... and still keeps connecting niqabies to bank robberies.
please.... give me a break...
and how many muslims have you seen shoplift/hold up stores anyway?
we are usually in more fear of Allah to do stupid things like shoplift.
This Smith Guy also asked for muslim women who refuse to take it off to be fined and to have the hijab made an offence. What happened to religious freedom in Australia? How can he possibly push for it to be ILLEGAL for someone to follow their faith? Why does a piece of fabric cause so much anger in him?
Maybe he just needed more listeners.. more press... more attention... because before all of this crap i had never heard of his name before.
And now some retail executive guy has said "Retailers should not have to fear any form of retribution or backlash for requiring the removal of any obscuring headwear, including hijabs, as a condition of entry,'' .... seriously i have never heard of any bank robbery or shoplifting crime where someone, dressed as a muslim, committed the act. These guys are just out to hate.
A poll on the radio station's website today asking, "Should we impose restrictions on the wearing of burkas in Australia?'' had a yes result of 76 per cent, and 23 per cent no. Well no surprise there.. im Aussie, so i know Aussies.. and the majority of us are racist, ignorant bastards... even if we say so otherwise.
and now.. he is trying to calm down the mess by saying he is talking about face coverings in general and trying to stay away from the religious talk.. but what has he created? nothing but drama.. all the comments the radio station are receiving are against muslims, Islam and our dress.. no one is talking about general face coverings.. its all anti-islam...
just what we need.. more prejudice-ignorant-hater-bogans with nothing better to do than whinge about multi-culturalism and religious issues... while at the same time falsely pride ourselves into that "we are one.. but we are many.. blach blah blah... i am.. you are.. we are australian" crap.
